Lots Going On . . .

Some photos of the crosses that were erected to remember some of those who died in World War 1; some making and creating; some pea planting, with thanks to Jo; some whole class pix; our new sandpit outside our classroom; some fabulous character portraits to inspire the use of adjectives for our narrative storywriting - you may recognise a few 'little pigs', Charlie and Mr Willy Wonka, the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk; the Big Bad Wolf, and others; and the cross country today - congratulations everyone for fabulous racing and great positive sportsmanship.  Great work, everyone . . . :)

Cross Country and School Disco

Just a 'heads up' to remind you that the Cross Country for the whole school is on this Thursday, 30 April, at 1pm out on the field. We will start with Room 10 girls, then Room 10 boys, then it will be our turn . . . Room 9 girls, then Room 9 boys. You may enjoy coming to watch and cheer, if you can. :)

If it is raining it will be on Friday. If it is raining Friday it will be on Monday and so on . . .

Please send suitable running shoes for your children. All of ours run quite comfortably in their school shoes.

The school disco is on Friday evening, for the juniors from 5.30pm to 7pm.

Term 2 Room 9 Letter to All

New photos from the last three days in the NEW PIX folder . . . :)

20 April 2015

Dear All

So wonderful to be back with you all, feeling great, after such a lovely holiday. Hope all is well with you and your family, also. As you know I love working with your children because they are so focused, positive, enthusiastic, curious and willing to learn.
And …… they are very kind to each other.

Term 2 sees us welcoming Cody and his family who have moved from Timaru. And WELCOME to the boys from Room 10 – Euan, Mickalos, Kerby, Inigo and Nico. I know that you all will fit in beautifully as though you have always been with us and that you will be very happy in Room 9.

You all are very welcome to visit and join in with our learning at any time. You are most welcome to have a read of my weekly timetable and the Long Term Plan. Both of these are pinned to the back wall just to the left of the whiteboard behind my desk. They will tell you what we are learning this term, each week and each day. You may like to also look through your children’s workbooks. And have a squizz at our blog – google Our Lady of Victories School, Christchurch and then find the classroom blogs. I encourage the children to take photos of any of their work – they often like to record their construction or things that may need to be packed away. Many of the photos on the blog are taken by the children and you can hear them read their reading books or their own stories.

The children are training for the cross country for the first two weeks so you may like them to bring suitable running shoes that they can change into. We will be focusing on building up stamina and distance. Room 9 children love running so I think they will run the distance without any problems.

Our inquiry unit is science based and called The Living World. It will be lots of fun and also will be integrated into many other of our curriculum subjects.

I am looking forward to the next eleven weeks and expect to see the same exciting progress in your child’s learning as we did last term.

Regards
:)

FIRST DAY BACK

Fabulous first day for us all. Children were happy, settled and excited to be back at school. Our powhiri for our new principal, Mr Aberhart, was heartwarming and beautiful. The 60 students from Our Lady of Fatima that came to support Mr Aberhart in his transition from his previous school to ours were magnificent. Matua Maaka and Matua Anton did a great job in tutoring all our children. Fantastic to have Miss Singleton visit us as well. xx We had lots of guests for our powhiri . . . .  wonderful to have such great support from our parents and the parish.

The new sandpit outside our room was probably the biggest hit with the kids. Lots of smiling faces! Someone or two went home with the wrong shoes yesterday . . . .  two mispaired shoes left in the cloakroom.

Today starts off with Values Assembly and then a full-on timetable . . . . .  .  have a great day.
